Ethical Planning, a small family-run planning consultancy based in Newcastle, is celebrating a landmark year after being crowned Royal Town Planning Institute’s North East Mid-Size Planning Consultancy of the Year and going on to earn a runners-up position and national commendation at the RTPI’s National Planning Awards.

What began as a mission to deliver honest, transparent and people-centered planning support has grown into a nationally operating consultancy with a reputation for integrity and client-focused service. Alongside its North East headquarters, Ethical Planning has satellite offices in Birmingham and Manchester, strengthening its ability to support clients across the UK.

Despite its growth, the consultancy has remained grounded in its founding values: honesty, integrity, clear communication and ethical practice. These principles are reflected not only in the awards received but also in the high-impact projects delivered regionally and nationally.

Across the North East, Ethical Planning has played a key role in securing permission for the new Northumberland Line, obtaining approval for one of the region’s few Grand Designs–style homes, and supporting the redevelopment work of local charity The People’s Kitchen. The team has additionally assisted with the delivery of new padel courts in the region and provided expert guidance on urgent emergency remediation works, demonstrating the breadth of expertise within the consultancy.

Managing Director Matthew Creedy said:

“We are absolutely delighted. Being recognised at both a regional and national level is a huge honour, especially for a small, family-run consultancy. It reflects the quality of work our team produces and the care we put into every project. We’re passionate about making planning accessible, honest and supportive, and it’s fantastic to see that approach acknowledged on a national stage.”

As demand grows across the country, Ethical Planning remains committed to offering the same down-to-earth, personal service that has earned them widespread recognition. The team says the awards mark an exciting milestone as they continue expanding their national presence while staying true to the values at the heart of the business.
