Is your land suitable for future development?

Calling all landowners in Northumberland!

Northumberland County Council has launched a ‘Call for Sites’ as part of the preparation of their new Local Plan. This is an important stage in shaping how the county grows over the next 15–20 years, and the Council is inviting landowners, developers, and other stakeholders to put forward land for consideration.

The Council is particularly seeking sites that could support:

  • Housing development (including opportunities for affordable housing and mixed-use schemes)
  • Employment land (such as offices, industrial space, or logistics)
  • Land well-related to existing settlements and accessible by sustainable transport – especially locations served by trains, buses, cycling and walking routes

If you, or someone you know, owns land that might help meet the county’s future needs, now is the time to submit it for review.

Why is this important?

  • No commitment now: Submitting a site does not grant planning permission and does not commit you to development.
  • Future opportunities: However, it ensures your land is assessed by the Local Planning Authority and, if found suitable, could be included in the Local Plan. This can unlock significant opportunities for development in the years ahead.
  • Influence local growth: This process helps shape where housing, jobs, and infrastructure are directed across Northumberland – so it’s a valuable chance to put forward suitable, deliverable sites.

Deadline & Support

The Call for Sites is open until 30th September.
