In partnership with SLC Property, we were successful in obtaining planning permission, listed building consent and other related consents to facilitate delivery of the Coventry Station Masterplan, which included the construction of:
- A second footbridge connecting all four platforms via stairs and lifts and extended platform canopies
- A second station entrance building
- A 633-space multi-storey car park which will sit on top of the new station building
- Extension of the pedestrian boulevard to create a high-quality traffic free route from the station
- Creation of a new taxi loop and separate vehicle drop off loop
- A transport interchange connected directly to the station building via a new access tunnel under Warwick Road which includes a covered walkway for bus users
- Highway improvements to Warwick Road which include upgrading the roundabout at the Central 6 junction and creating a new access road from the multi-storey car park onto Warwick Road
- A new two-way link road will also be created between Westminster Road to the ring road slip road as part of the works
- A new bay platform to enable two trains per hour between Coventry and Nuneaton
Our commission included leading all engagement with the local planning authority and other key stakeholders, including overseeing a programme of pre-planning public and stakeholder engagement, including extensive engagement with Historic England and Network Rail.
We also supported the making of a compulsory purchase order, enabling our client to acquire the land required to facilitate the scheme. This included contributions to the acquiring authority’s statement of case, and appearing as expert witness at public inquiry.
We managed the discharge of conditions that were imposed upon the planning permission and listed building consent, to enable works to commence as per the delivery programme. The scheme is now operational.
