Leicester Station Gateway is revitalising the landmark Leicester Station building by creating a more attractive and accessible gateway into the city which in turn will also support the regeneration of the local area.
We provided Strategic management of the planning and heritage consents workstream as part of a multi-disciplinary project team including the delivery of pre-planning public engagement.
Working in partnership with strategic stakeholders we devised and managed a pre-planning public engagement in early 2023, the engagement included a bespoke interactive engagement platform, drop in events and key stakeholder briefings. We were able to demonstrate significant support for the project and feed results into the design development. We authored a Statement of Community Engagement which described the engagement process and outcomes to support the subsequent application phase 2 application.
We advised on a two phase application approach to minimise risk and enable works to commence in line with programme. The first application for listed building consent and planning permission sought approval for the first phase of the project – the careful demolition of an adjacent building. The second application for listed building consent and planning permission sought approval for the redevelopment of the station including the creation of a new entrance and public realm.
We secured planning permission and listed building consent for the first phase in 2023 with works commencing in February 2024. The phase 2 application for planning permission and listed building consent was approved in September 2024.
