The Ropery, a Grade II Listed Building situated in the historic market town centre of Hexham, was originally built around 1800 as a rope-making workshop. Over the years, the building, composed of multiple subdividing sections, had fallen into disrepair and remained derelict. The internal southern elevation was on the brink of severe collapse, with several temporary timber buttresses installed to support the adjacent car park footpath.
We successfully guided the conversion of The Ropery into six residential units for market rent. This involved removing made ground and carrying out restoration and rebuilding work that honored the building’s Grade II status while accommodating the new development.
