Is Your Land an Opportunity for the Future of County Durham?

Durham County Council has launched a Call for Sites as part of its new Local Plan preparation. If you, or someone you know, owns land that could be suitable for future housing, employment, or other development, this is an important opportunity to realise the future potential of your land.

Submitting a site at this stage does not grant planning permission, nor does it commit you to any immediate development. Instead, it allows the Local Planning Authority to assess whether your land could play a valuable role in meeting the county’s long-term needs — helping you safeguard or even unlock its development value in the years to come.

The Call for Sites is open until 15th August 2025, so we encourage landowners to consider whether they wish to put forward any land for assessment now.

If you would like a professional opinion on your land’s potential or assistance in preparing a submission, we would be delighted to help you make the most of this opportunity.
